Year-round, the AATC hosts Tuesday night workouts. These are for members, but non-members are welcome to take a test-drive. The workouts are coached interval workouts held on the University of Michigan Outdoor Track from April to October and on the University of Michigan Indoor Track from November to March. The workouts promote fitness, friendship, training and running to a wide spectrum of participants.
At the front are some very talented and dedicated athletes including former college track stars, seasoned marathon runners, age group champions, a national record holder and an Olympian. But just as much a part of the workouts are new and long-time participants that run just for fun, to stay in shape, to get back into shape, or are training for a personal best in an upcoming race.
The interval workouts are short and intense, which many people enjoy as a nice change form their longer, slower runs. The total distance of hard intervals in a workout is about 5 km (3.1 miles). The workouts are designed to improve one's 5k time, but will also benefit shorter track races ranging from 400 meters to 2 miles. The workouts will also help runners targeting longer races like a 10k, half marathon, or marathon, by improving leg turnover, form, and stamina. And whether you race or not, everyone enjoys the fitness and comradery of the workouts.
Since the AATC has rented the UM Tracks for the exlusive use of the AATC adult workouts during the scheduled times, we ask that you follow the workout posted below and described at the start of each workout. This is required for the safety of all participants and to make the organized workout possible.
So if you haven't been to a Tuesday night workout - give it a try. Nobody is too slow or too fast.
Please note: Starting December 3rd, we need to move the start time of the indoor workouts to 7:30 pm to accomodate University training schedules. The track will be open for warm-up at 7:00 pm and the workout will start at 7:30 pm.
Indoor workouts start November 5th 2013. We meet on the UM Indoor Track in the field house just off of State Street. Enter the gate north of Yost Arena and drive about 200 yards. The address is 1150 S. State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. MAP
The indoor track opens at 7:00 p.m. and participants warm up on their own. The workout starts at 7:30 p.m. Workouts are scheduled for AATC members; non-members are welcome to take a test drive but encouraged to join the AATC if they enjoy the workouts and the club.
The AATC will have exclusive use of the indoor track (no overcrowding!). $5 for members, $7 for non-members. Members have the option of buying a season pass for $45 or a family pass for $100 (for family members of high school age and up).
