Gary MorganGary MorganSince 2005, Gary Morgan has worked scrupulously to fulfill his role, Road Runners Club of America State Representative, for the state of Michigan.

“I found the opening through Michigan Runner Magazine, and since I was already running road races, I thought I’d see what it was all about.

“My goal,” Morgan continued, “was to put Michigan on the map.”

Last year, Morgan was instrumental in negotiating eight RRCA Championship races in the state. Quite a feat in comparison to the single championship event that existed when Gary began his tenure.

“I worked really hard, and last year things just all came together.”

Morgan’s hard work has not gone unnoticed.

Earlier this year, Gary was selected by a panel of his esteemed colleagues, to be named the RRCA Outstanding State Representative for 2010. Morgan was honored in May at the 53rd Annual RRCA National Convention in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Ann Arbor Track Club President, Mitch Garner, who also serves as the RRCA Central Regional Director, conveyed, “The RRCA Outstanding State Representative of the Year Award is, in my view, the most prestigious of all the awards given annually by the RRCA. The recipient must build relationships with running clubs across his or her state over a long period of time.”Garner added, “The award recognizes Gary for his unselfish service to the sport of distance running in the State of Michigan. He is the best of the best among RRCA State Representatives.”
Morgan asserted that he was “thrilled” to receive the honor, and further credited those individuals and clubs who put on races and programs, which make Michigan “one of the best running states in the nation.”

Gary plans on maintaining his role with the RRCA for the foreseeable future.

“There are plenty more things that I want to do!”

One of Morgan’s many plans for the state is to play host to the RRCA National Convention.

Though no firm plans have been made, Gary revealed, “possibly 2013 if it all comes together.”

Interested parties ought duly note their planners considering Morgan has a history of making matters ‘come together.’

Gary articulated that his involvement with the RRCA has provided him with many “special opportunities,” and encourages clubs and runners alike to involve themselves with the organization.

Morgan further emphasized that he is “more than happy to help out with whatever is needed.”

“Gary is a special person,” Garner raved. “Everything he does for the sport of running is done out of the goodness of his heart. No one can match his enthusiasm or his determination. He will walk through a brick wall to accomplish his goal.”
