Chi Running Workshop (9:00 am - 4:30 pm)
Chi Running Founder / Ultra-marathon Runner Danny Dreyer Teaches Injury-free, Pain-free Chi Running Workshop in Lansing on September 25

Local Shares How Chi Running Has Made a Difference in His Life

Discount offered to AATC members

Asheville, NC – Certified Chi Running Instructor Ken Henningfeld (Adrian, MI) is proud to bring ChiRunning Founder/Ultra-marathon runner Danny Dreyer to Lansing in September. ChiRunning is a revolutionary running technique that combines movement principles from the ancient martial art – T'ai Chi – with the power and energy of running in order to prevent injury. Hundreds of Michigan runners have already experienced the difference ChiRunning has made in their lives.

Level I Workshop:
Date:
Saturday, September 25, 2010

Time: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm (1-hr lunch break)

Instructor: Danny Dreyer

Address: Williamston High School, 3939 Vanneter Road, Williamston, MI, 48895

Of the 24 million people in the U.S. who run, 65% will have to stop running at least once each year due to injury. Millions more quit or avoid running because of the fear of injury, or long-term damage. Yet, there have been few fresh ideas or new approaches to running and injury prevention in the last thirty years.

The ChiRunning program offers a real solution to the high rate of injury that plagues the sport of running. The ChiRunning technique increases mental clarity and focus by engaging your mind. At the same time it teaches you how to deeply relax your body so that you can run freely, effortlessly and without injury for the rest of your life.

Michigan resident Ken Henningfeld first learned about ChiRunning when his daughter gave him a copy of Danny Dreyer's book. After nearly 40 years of running, Ken was finding himself plagued by injuries, and spending nearly as much time recovering from strains and pulls as he was running.

He began incorporating some of the techniques from the book into his own running practice with success, and realized that he wanted to know more. Having recently retired from his work as a high school mathematics teacher, he decided to devote his time to learning and teaching ChiRunning. He attended the ChiRunning Instructor Training in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2007, and joined the growing team of over 120 Certified ChiRunning Instructors.

"The Instructor Certification experience was remarkable," Ken reports. "Danny is an inspiring teacher and mentor. I learned so much from him about posture, body movement, focus, and the connection between the mind and the body. Best of all, since becoming a ChiRunning practitioner, I haven't suffered any significant injuries. In fact, now, at age 60, I'm running more miles and running faster than I was 20 years ago."

In addition to using ChiRunning techniques in his own running, Ken shares his knowledge and experience with other runners and walkers in Michigan. He regularly offers workshops and private instruction in both Ann Arbor and in his home of Adrian.

There are countless books, courses, and classes on how to improve golf swings, tennis games, and even cycling technique, but none teach how to run properly. The Chi Running program fills this void by teaching people biomechanically correct running form that is in line with the laws of physics and with the ancient principles of movement found in T'ai Chi. The technique is based on the same principles and orientation as Yoga, Pilates, and T'ai Chi: working with core muscles; integrating mind and body; and focusing on overall and long term performance and well-being.

The Chi Running program virtually changes the landscape of the sport of running and makes running accessible and appealing to people who have stopped running due to injury, who are intimidated by the difficulty and potential danger of running, who want to have a competitive edge, and for those who seek a spiritual component in their fitness program.
