Such is the mark of a ballsy, confident competitor with a zest for life who makes no bones about who he is or how he feels. Reilly, a native New Yorker and current resident of Farmington Hills, happened onto the ‘AATC scene,’ in 2008 due to his desire to “crank up” his running, after retiring from his executive position at Opinion Research Corporation. “I needed a place to run indoors and do interval workouts,” Terry explained. “I just showed up (to the Tuesday night track workouts) and found a great group of people to not only run with but socialize and volunteer.” The feeling is mutual. Stani Bohac, adult coach and head of AATC’s Tuesday night workouts, attests, “Terry brings many things to the AATC, but the thing that most stands out in my mind is his cheerful, youthful enthusiasm that makes running and organizing more enjoyable for everyone.” 62 going on 30. Reilly’s involvement with the club has grown in leaps and bounds. A former head track and cross country coach for Le Moyne College (Syracuse, NY) some 40 years ago, Reilly first leant his energy and expertise in 2009 to assist Bohac with their desire to improve and expand the Club’s Mini Meets. The following year, Terry joined the AATC Board of Directors, and December 2010, Reilly officially took on his current post, club treasurer. “He’s been a great addition to the Board,” maintains AATC Vice President, Kevin Galvin. “He’s got a lot of energy and brings new ideas.” 62 going on 30. An open-minded kind of guy, Reilly insists that he “never met a race that did not have something to appreciate,” though his favorite remains, the New York Marathon. “I’ve only run it twice, but it’s my hometown, and there is nothing like two million spectators cheering you every step of the way.” 62 going on 30. Outside of the sport he has “always loved,” Reilly enjoys golf, ‘loves a good poker game’ and has recently become adept at gourmet cooking. Terry also spends quite a bit of time traveling with his wife and keeping up with his two “great” children and granddaughter, which he hopes will keep him going to his century mark. The more accurate question, Terry, might be – can they keep up with you? 100 going on 30.... |
